Below measures are valid in Budapest and are in effect from 18 May 2020.

  • Movement restrictions will no longer be in place.
  • Everyone must keep social contact to a minimum (except with people from the same household) and must keep the 1.5 m distance at all times.
  • Everyone must cover their nose and mouth (with a mask, scarf, cloth, etc.) when entering stores or using public transportation.
  • Parks and public areas can be visited while keeping the 1.5 m distance.
  • Grocery stores, pharmacies, stores selling medicine or medical supplies, drug stores can only be used by people over 65 years of age between 09:00 and 12:00 every day. This age group is only allowed to enter stores in that timeframe.
  • It is the district municipality’s responsibility to designate hours when only those above 65 years of age are allowed to visit local markets.
  • All stores are allowed to reopen.
  • It is allowed to use restaurant/café services in their outdoor area.
  • Noone other than the employees are to be inside restaurants and cafés, except when picking up takeaway orders.
  • Beaches and outdoor pools are allowed to open.
  • Outdoor museums and zoos are allowed to open.
  • All service providers are allowed to reopen.
  • The 1.5 m distance must be kept at all times in all establishments, it is the given store management’s responsibility to make sure rules are adhered to.
  • In restaurants and cafés the 1.5 m must be kept between tables.
  • It is allowed to attend religious gatherings, weddings and funerals. The 1.5 m distance must be kept at all of these gatherings, the only exception is the couple getting married.
  • Universities and colleges can reopen based on decision of the rector. College dorms are not allowed to reopen. It is the rector’s responsibility to ensure that the 1.5 m distance is kept.
  • Sports events can be held without spectators. Horse races are to be considered sports events.
  • From the 15th of June 2020, family gatherings following funerals and weddings are permitted with up to 200 guests. Social distancing rules must be adhered to.
  • Not adhering to the above rules counts as a misdemeanor and the individual can be fined to anywhere between 5000 HUF and 500000 HUF.
