One of the most famous wine regions in Hungary is Eger, which is located in the North Eastern part of the country. Its a city which is also known for its castle, thermal baths, baroque buildings and the northernmost Ottoman minaret.

Eger is great for a weekend trip from Pápa, with a distance of 330 km / 205 miles.
If you want to explore the gastronomic culture of Hungary with local food and drinks, this could be the place you are looking for.

For the wine, its probably most known for its red blend, Egri Bikavér.

By car: 3,5-4 hours, depending on traffic
Train: Papa-Eger 4-8 hours, depending on departure.
