Update #43 (04.11.2020): The Mayor announced that the national process of reporting numbers was changed last week, therefore local Town Hall is no longer receiving local numbers. County-level numbers will still be available, but we must bear in mind that there are significant differences between towns within a county.
He said it makes no sense to start guessing about current numbers, but it is obvious that our town is affected, and the virus makes life harder in several institutions, as well as schools and kindergartens.
Sevaral employees of the rheumatology section of the Thermal Bath have been infected, therefore they have decided to temporarily close the section. It is projected to reopen on the 17th of November.
There is one positive case in the Old people’s home on Teveli road, two employees are waiting for their tests.
The Mayor also mentioned that there are infected people amongst the Town Hall employees as well.
Update #42 (25.10.2020): Similarly to the nation-wide statistics, the number of people infected with COVID-19 is increasing in our town. On the 23rd of October there were 66 infected people in Pápa, while by the evening of the 24th, this number jumped to 83 with 21 new infected people, and 4 recovered. No new infected people were identified during the rest of the weekend, so the current number stands at 83. This is almost double than the highest numbers in mid-August.
The number of people in mandatory isolation has also increased – 54 on Friday, an additional 21 on Saturday with 6 of them lifted, therefore the current number of people in mandatory isolation is at 69.
There has been a decrease in mandatory quarantines. On the 23rd of October there were 201 people in mandatory quarantine, there were 35 new ones issued, but at the same time 98 of them have been lifted, so the current number stands at 138.
There have been a total of 1794 locals effected by COVID-19 in one way or another, there are currently 290 people in some form of quarantine, and 1504 of these orders have been lifted. A total of 234 infected people have been identified since the appearance of the virus in Pápa, and 151 people have recovered.
Update #41 (14.10.2020): The Mayor of Pápa held a press conference about the past weeks’ data regarding local COVID-19 infections. He started off by saying that in the past few days there has been an increase in positive COVID-19 cases, as well as in the number of quarantines mandated, but we can still say that Pápa is OK when compared with the county’s numbers.
The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Veszprém county has increased by 250 since the 7th of October. 28 of those 250 were from Pápa. 10 mandatory lockdowns have been lifted, bringing the number of active positive cases to 35 in Pápa (as of 14:00 on the 14th of October). This number hasn’t been this high since September.
It is apparent that many people in mandatory isolation turn out to be positive, which shows that the quarantine system if effective.
The number of people in some form of quarantine has also increased. This number springs up significantly when some kind of an institution is affected – like schools or old people’s homes -, just like in the case of Pápa in the past days.
192 people were put into mandatory quarantine in the past week, it was lifted in 99 cases, so all in all there are currently 154 people in mandatory quarantine. The total number of people in all forms of quarantine is 238.
The youngest person infected is 9 years old, the eldest is 76 years old. The average age is 42 years.
The Mayor said that there are no old people’s homes affected in Pápa at the moment, but he is aware of the fact that some cases have been found in one of the kindergartens.
Update #40 (07.10.2020): The Mayor of Pápa held a press conference, which he started by saying that COVID-19 numbers have been decreasing for several days in Pápa. There are currently 17 infected people in our town.
Eight new cases were identified in the past week, and 19 mandatory lockdowns were lifted, so all in all, the number of people in mandatory lockdown has decreased by 11. The average age of infected people shows a growing tendency. Earlier this number was 37 years, this week, the average age of those who tested positive is 42. The eldest infected is a 76-year old gentleman, and the youngest is a 9-year old boy, which shows that all ages can be affected.
A 90-year old man was transported to Ajka hospital in the beginning of August, he was undergoing treatments there for a long time, but he is back in his home in Pápa, recovered and feeling well.
There were 180 identified COVID-19 infections in Veszprém county in the past week.
The number of mandatory quarantines has also decreased. 97 new people have been ordered to mandatory quarantine, while 133 were released.
Update #39 (01.10.2020): The Mayor of Pápa held a press conference yesterday, providing trends and information with regards to the current COVID-19 situation in Pápa.
He said the number of infected people increased by 6 since the 22nd of September, but he explained that there is a complex process behind this number. 30 people were ordered to mandatory lockdown, and 24 were released because they have recovered, therefore the increase is due to the difference in the number of new quarantines and the ones that were released. The average age of the infected people is currently 37.

Similar dynamic changes can be seen in the data regarding mandatory isolation and mandatory quarantine. 25 people were ordered to mandatory isolation, and 27 were released from it, bringing the current number of people in mandatory isolation to 26. He added that in several cases people in mandatory isolation were diagnosed with COVID-19, and therefore were ordered to mandatory lockdown.
123 people were ordered to mandatory quarantine since the 22nd of September, and 120 were released from it, so the number of people in mandatory quarantine went from 98 to 101.
The Mayor said there are currently 155 people in some form of quarantine in Pápa. Similar numbers can be observed in the past few days, which is fortunately far from the August numbers, which were around 300. The number of infected people is stagnant around 28-29, which is slightly higher than a week ago, but still lower than the numbers in the first half of August.

The Mayor also spoke about the situation in the county, where the number of infected people grew by 146 in a little over a week, 30 of which are from Pápa, meaning that the ratio of infected people Pápa to Veszprém county has grown a little.
He finished by saying that he believes that by paying attention and being conscious, we can avoid having to implement stricter measures, and he asked everyone to adhere to current regulations.
Update #38 (28.09.2020): There are 33 infected people in Pápa, and 155 people in quarantine, including the 33 infected people.
Update #37 (25.09.2020): There are 26 infected people in Pápa, and 171 people in quarantine, together with the 26 infected people.
Update #36 (24.09.2020): The Mayor of Pápa held a press conference yesterday, providing trends and information with regards to the current COVID-19 situation in Pápa.
He was happy to report that the local TV station’s employees are out of quarantine, and therefore he was able to return to the studio to hold the press conference.
He highlighted that since the 14th of September, the number of confirmed local cases has decreased from 31 to 23. In the past 10 days 20 cases were ordered to mandatory lockdown, and 28 were released. 25 people were ordered to mandatory isolation, and 11 were released. 90 people were ordered to mandatory quarantine, and 88 were released.

There has been a radical change in the average age of infected people, it was 39 years of age in the middle of September, now it is 32. This is contrary to the so-called California-phenomenon (which is the trend of the average age of infected people going up), however we know very well why this happened in Pápa – there have been some identified cases in one of the local high schools, this is what pushed the average down locally.

The Mayor mentioned that since the 14th of September, the number of identified cases in Veszprém county has risen by 205, from 365 to 570, while in Pápa 20 cases were identified which is less than 10%. He emphasized that Pápa isn’t a hub within our county.
He said the total number of mandatory quarantines is stagnant around 150, and the number of infected people is around the same as it was at the end of August. This is a better trend than what can be observed in other towns, and while he wishes for the numbers to drop, he mostly wishes for them not to rise.

This newly identified person is a relative of an already identified positive person. Although the number of active patients should increase due to the new positive case, there is no change, since an administrative issue was corrected (a positive patient was earlier counted as a Papa citizen and added to the Papa numbers by mistake) at the same time. With this, no change in the yesterday’s number, still 41 active cases are known in Papa.
Due to the high number of expiring quarantine orders the number of personnel in quarantine dropped significantly to 209.
