If your dog is named Whisky and he is 13 years old, pretty sick, mostly blind and deaf, can only stand on three legs as opposed to four, this is the place you want to take him. :)
If you don't feel like going too far to have a nice dinner or lunch, Grof11 is a great choice. They have a nice terrace and are pet-friendly.
I really like Interspar because I can pretty much buy everything I need in one go. They have an underground parking area, as well as some specialty shops in the same building. Service is not too good, self-checkout is dreadful, you have to weigh all your produce yourself, which is the furthest possible from the actual checkout spot.
Super nice staff in an old cinema building. They have popcorn, nachos, soda, even beer I think. :) They normally have screenings in English of the most popular new movies once a week.
Their website says 'plant based' but truly, there is not much actual plant you can have there. It's mostly deep fried fake meat (far from being as sophisticated as Beyond burgers) with a really bad taste. Fries were extremely undercooked when we were there, at the same time soaked in oil. If you expect salads here, don't, all you can have are "burgers" and "schnitzels", really poor quality. The service was nice and attentive and the location is superb, your view is the church on the main square. I truly hope they change their menu and their methods because otherwise I would love a great vegan place in town.
If you are into traditional Hungarian cuisine (which is pretty heavy with huge portions), this is the best place in Pápa for eating out. They have an indoor and a semi-outdoor area and I think there's live music every Friday. Don't be surprised if you can't finish your meal, every dish is a calorie bomb here.. :)
Nagytevel Lake is a 10-minute drive from Pápa located towards the end of a charming village. The lake is beautiful, equipped with everything you need at a beach. You can also camp here, as well as have some authentic beach food. Basically, you kind of get the Balaton experience in little. :)
The boat trip in the caves is extremely cool and pretty much one of a kind experience. Highly recommend for families, when the weather is not great at the Balaton, or just for a great day out of Pápa.
This place is an oasis within an oasis. Situated in a beautiful village by the Balaton along the last curve towards the hills it's the perfect cozy spot if you want to have simple but quality food or their signature drink, a lavender spritzer. The staff is really nice and you can literally smell the Balaton hills when you sit at one of the charming tables outside. Would recommend 10/10.
No wonder this place got Tripadvisor's choice award. The restaurant, which is also like a community space, is essentially an old mill with the best possible location in the town. A creek is running by your feet and you get one of the best views over the Veszprém Castle and the signature cliffs of the town. The style of the place is really trendy, so is the food. If you want to spend a relaxing hour at a cool spot and have a bite while you're doing so, this place is a must-try.
