Mandatory covering of the nose and mouth – in effect from 21.09.2020 Everyone is obliged to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth in the following situations. This does not apply to children below 6 years old. – on public transportation – in restaurants, pubs, bars, etc.; except if you are a sit-down guest – in shopping malls; except if you are a sit-down guest in the food court, in the office areas, in gyms and technical rooms – in all performance art venues (especially theaters, dance venues, music venues); except if you are the performer – in movie theaters; except in office areas and technical rooms – in museums, in libraries, in image- and sound archives, in community venues, in integrated cultural venues, in archives, during opening hours in customer service offices, post offices, in any space where customers are welcome and there is a possibility for more than 5 people (including the employees) to be in the space at the same time – in public transportation waiting areas – anyone entering a health institution (hospitals, doctor’s offices, etc.); except for patients in their own hospital rooms – in social institutions (old people’s homes, public aid facilities, etc.)
In all cases it is the venue’s (shops, stores, malls, theaters, etc.) manager’s responsibility to make sure everyone adheres to the rules, and they are authorized to implement sanctions as per their own regulations.
On public transportation, any of the transportation company’s employees are responsible for making sure everyone wears their masks in the correct manner, and must implement sanctions if someone breaks the rules – at least by fining them. Anyone who refuses to wear a mask in the correct way or to leave the vehicle, will be banned from travelling, and will be handed over to the police.
Anyone not wearing their mask in the correct way in any of the abovementioned venues, will be ordered to leave the premises. The Police may step in at any moment in any of the abovementioned venues. If the Police finds that management isn’t checking their guests, they will receive a first warning the first time, a fine between 100 000 HUF and 1 000 000 HUF the second time, the store will be closed for between 3 days and 1 year the third time. These warnings can happen on the same day, and sanctions may not be implemented if management asked the guest to adhere to the rules, refused service, asked the guest to leave, and called the Police if none of the above worked.
Protective measures in educational institutions – in effect from 01.10.2020 Employees of educational institutions, workers entering the school to carry out their job, and students above 18 years old may only enter the building if their body temperature isn’t higher than the limit specified by the Surgeon General of Hungary, which is 37,8 degrees Celsius. Students below 18 years of age, whose body temperature is higher than the limit specified by the Surgeon General must be isolated, and their parents/legal caregivers must be notified immediately. The Surgeon General will announce the limit specified. The head of the educational institution is responsible for making sure that these rules are followed. Everyone entering the building must accept to have their temperature measured. Only employees, contracted workers, students are allowed to enter the building. One person is allowed to accompany the child until the point of temperature check, given that they are wearing a mask in the correct way.
Music, dance events, and opening hours of restaurants, pubs, bars, etc.– in effect from 21.09.2020
Dance and music events may be held if the number of participants is below 500, including the employees. This goes for all events, regardless of where and how they are organized.
It is forbidden to be present at the venue between 11pm and 6am the next day, unless you work there, and unless you are picking up pre-ordered food and drinks.
Regulations regarding entering Hungary – in effect from 21.09.2020
Regulations mentioned in this decree have been extended until midnight of the 31st of October. The 14-day mandatory quarantine mentioned in this decree is reduced to 10 days.
Regulations on prices of medical services
The flu vaccine can be requested for free in 2020 and 2021 – in effect from 01.10.2020.
SARS COV-2 RT-PCR tests have a maximum price of 19 500 HUF in all accredited testing points, unless the test is prescribed by a GP, in which case it is for free. – in effect from 21.09.2020
